The Werkself celebrate the victory in St. Petersburg

Today the Werkself travelled to St. Petersburg for their first match of the Florida Cup. The match was played against Estudiantes de la Plata in the Tampa Bay Rowdies stadium. The Bayer 04 boys went down a goal before the end of the first half, but youngster Sam Schreck was able to bring things level in the second. Regulation time ended in a 1:1 draw, but the set up of the Florida Cup competition meant that the match would go into penalties. Stefan Kießling, Charles Aranguiz, Admir Mehmedi, Julian Brandt and Aleksandar Dragovic took on the responsibility for these, with all but Mehmedi meeting the back of the net. Estudiantes had missed one of their penalties and had one saved by Rambo Özcan, so when Dragovic knocked his in, the victory was sealed for the Werkself.
